Which carrier oil is best for you?

    Date: 2017-08-11

On the never-ending quest for the perfect essential oil recipes, you’ve probably come across the phrase “carrier oil” a time or two. Typically used to dilute essential oils, carrier oils are commonly employed in skincare, cleaning products, aromatherapy and diffuser recipes, and are good to have on hand if you want to apply oil to your skin directly or dial back a specific oil’s scent or intensity. Before applying essential oils to the skin, be sure to mix a carrier oil in to dilute them.  Here are a few carrier oils:

    Almond (Virgin, Sweet)

Sweet Almond carrier oil is an excellent emollient which softens and reconditions the skin. It penetrates easily and can soothe dry, irritated areas. Excellent for all skin types. Well suited as a carrier oil for aromatherapy blends. Also useful as a bath or massage oil; excellent addition to lotion bars, sugar or salt scrubs and balms.

    Argan  - ORGANIC

On the other hand, there is Argan Carrier Oil which is beloved in the cosmetic industry for its incredible conditioning and anti-aging properties. Rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids, Argan Oil is known to make dull complexions glow, diminish the appearance of fine lines and restore skin elasticity. This oil is wonderful for all skin types, even those that are sensitive or prone to breakouts. Argan Carrier Oil comes from a cold-press extraction from the nuts of the argan tree.

    Coconut (Fractionated)  FCO

Fractionated Coconut Oil is not the same as virgin cold-press coconut oil that is solid at 76 degrees Fahrenheit and below. Fractionated oils have been heated to separate certain chains of fatty acids into separate components. This process refines, clarifies, and deodorizes the oil. Fractionated Coconut Oil will always remain liquid regardless of temperature. Its abilities as an emollient and moisturizer are the same as virgin coconut oil.

    Camellia Seed Carrier Oil

This plant oil contains high levels of antioxidants that help to revitalize and rejuvenate the hair and skin. Moreover, Camellia Seed Oil helps protects the skin from free radical damage, refines mature skin, and nourishes the complexion. The skin easily absorbs it, leaving it silky smooth without a greasy feeling, making it one of the best kept secrets in the cosmetic and hair care industry.

    Hemp Seed

Hemp Seed Oil is a natural, non-GMO, whole food product that can be used in a variety of ways. You can apply it topically as a moisturizer, use a carrier or for essential oils, or even consume it! Being the most nutritional oil available, Hemp Seed Oil is high in omega fatty acids and proteins. This makes Hemp Seed oil beneficial for culinary use and to use as a dietary supplement. Our Unrefined Hemp Seed Oil is dark in color and rich in flavor. It uses a cold press extraction without the use of chemicals, preservatives or additive. It is runs through a filter to remove any natural solids.

    Sunflower - ORGANIC

Organic Sunflower carrier oil has high amounts of Vitamins A, B, D and E, minerals, and has beneficial amounts of lecithin and unsaturated fatty acids. Similar to Almond Oil, Sunflower Oil is a wonderful skin softener and conditioner. Sunflower is a versatile cost-effective carrier oil that has applications in both massage and aromatherapy.   Plant Therapy offers a wide variety of carrier oils, while we currently only carry the essential oils themselves.
